Volunteer Positions

Chaplain of Presence

We view our Chaplains of Presence as the embodiment of what the Aurora Commons is all about.  Chaplains of Presence commit to weekly or biweekly volunteer shifts in which they simply come with a listening posture and an open heart as they spend time with the people in the Commons by conversing over a cup of coffee, creating art, offering prayer or playing cards.

Volunteer shifts for Chaplains of Presence are as follows:

Mon      10-1PM           Open Coffee Hours

Tues     10-1PM           Open Coffee Hours

Wed      10-1PM           Open Coffee Hours

Thurs    10-1PM           Ladies Only Breakfast

Administration Angel

This position umbrellas “all things paper”.  Whether you have skills in grant writing or supporting our team by logging information, we always need this important behind-the-scenes willing helper.

The People's Librarian

Help keep our literature happy!  The Brothers K is tired of sitting in the magazine section.  Help our books return to where they belong and perhaps even dust their backs!

Love to Scrub

A warm, beautiful space is highly important at the Commons.  If you have an hour or two to share your love to scrub, we would love to have it!!

Donation Closet Liaison

We have men's and women's small donation closets that quite often needs some TLC. If you have a passion for folding clothes, or love to organize, this could be a dream come true!

Chaplain of the Commons Refrigerator

The refrigerator is also known as the “heart” of the Commons.  We would love help tending to this source of love and sharing on a regular basis.

Groundskeeper

Aurora is often labeled as dirty and uncared for. We value communicating beauty not only relationally but also aesthetically.  You can add to the beauty by keeping our grounds swept and flowers watered !

Errand Runner

This position can be an “on call” opportunity for random items/pickups or a regularly scheduled donation pick up.

Handy M/Andy

There are always odds and ends that need to be fixed or light bulbs that need to be changed around the Commons.  Whether you would like to volunteer once a month or once a week, we could always use a Handy M/Andy.

Skill Sharing

Skill sharing happens informally throughout the day or more formally in classes and workshops.  Classes are usually 1-2 hours and last 2-8 weeks.  As part of sharing a skill, we also welcome those with holistic healing gifts, such as massage therapy or counseling.  We now have a private back room for one on one sessions!
