We see every day the way our unhoused neighbors at the Commons neighbor well. Cooking for one another (and for us too!), sharing clothing and supplies, cleaning up or carrying heavy boxes, offering a shoulder to cry on, the list goes on!
The Seattle Foundation hosts a one-day, online fundraising campaign, GiveBIG, to help nonprofits leverage their giving platform to raise money. For GiveBIG this year we will be highlighting some of the special housed and unhoused people in our community who support Aurora Commons in many different ways, see below to meet Marjorie the first person in our series! In this ever-growing and expanding city that has many neighbors who are unseen or unwanted, we are asking our wider community to respond to these precious people with a simple phrase #IAmYourNeighbor as a way to say, "I see you, I accept you, I have hope for you, I am your neighbor too."
Marjorie serves as the unofficial “house mom” of Aurora Commons. She keeps up on our laundry, makes the weekly grocery list, and lets us know the little improvements that need to be made to make our space run more efficiently. When she’s not keeping us in line and orderly, Marjorie is sharing her sage wisdom about vitamins and herbal supplements and giving us the best hugs in town. #iamyourneighbor #givebig
